With the terms of several members of the Newport City Council expiring Dec. 31, the governing body could be in for a significant overhaul in the November general election.
But until the Aug. 26 deadline for filing candidate paperwork comes and goes, trying to figure out who is running for council can be a tough trick.
Part of the difficulty stems from a would-be candidateís ability to get the paperwork online. However, every now and then someone picks up the paperwork in person, which can simplify matters.
With that in mind, Mayor Sandra Roumagoux appears to be eyeing another term given she is the only person, to date, to stop by city hall and request candidate paperwork. Of note, the mayorís term is two years, while a city councilorís term is four years.
