TOLEDO — The Port of Toledo is in the finals for a Connect Oregon V grant that would help make its $6.2 million boatyard haul-out expansion a reality.

The port is going to the Oregon Transportation Commission for final approval of $4.7 million and joins 36 other state projects, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The OTC will hold a public hearing on the projects July 17 in Salem and make a final decision at its Aug. 21-22 meeting in Ontario.

“We did it,” Port Manager Bud Shoemake said, adding that at this point, it’s rare for a project to be turned down unless there are significant issues with it. “We’re in great shape.”

The project would, locally, support about 40 jobs with another 167 statewide, he said. And it would help attract more boats from outside of the area.
