Rowdy suspect prompts hearing delay

Modified: Thursday, Jun 12th, 2014

NEWPORT An unruly defendant in a weapons and menacing case completed his first court appearance Tuesday, one day after his hearing was continued because of questionable behavior.

Mark Ghormley, 46, was advised of the charges at a lengthy afternoon hearing in Lincoln County Circuit Court, at which he made a number of rambling statements ranging from legal issues to farm animals.

Ghormley is facing single counts of menacing and disorderly conduct, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with his June 6 arrest.

Id like to see if we can settle this right now, said Ghormley in response to a statement from Judge Paulette Sanders at the hearing.

Ghormley, who appeared via a closed-circuit television feed from Lincoln County Jail, seemed to take issue with just about every portion of the proceeding.
