Vacation pad debate goes national

LINCOLN CITY — A live broadcast by a popular talk show host next Friday will focus national attention on the contentious debate over vacation rental houses in Lincoln City.

Portland radio personality Lars Larson will broadcast both his statewide and national shows June 6 from a vacation rental dwelling (VRD) that is among hundreds caught in the crosshairs of new city rules for tourist pads.

“It’s an important issue because if the city puts on restrictive rules and regulations, people will be forced to sell their homes and house values will go down,” claimed Larson, whose northwest show airs from noon to 3 p.m., followed by a national broadcast from 3 to 6 p.m. “It only benefits the affluent people who can afford exclusive oceanfront homes, and hurts all the others: families who visit the coast, people who clean and service vacation rentals and all the businesses in town.”
