Fisherman comes to defense of fish plant

Third-generation fisherman Dave DeBelloy defended fish plants at a meeting where Depoe Bay city councilors are mulling the reopening of a municipal fish plant against the opposition of some residents.

DEPOE BAY A Newport fisherman sailed into a Depoe Bay City Council meeting last week to set the record straight about fish plants.

Dave DeBelloy, a third generation fisherman from Depoe Bay, also argued in favor of restarting a city-owned fish plant that has run aground over local opposition from residents worried about fish waste, intolerable odors, increased traffic and itinerant dockworkers.
