NEWPORT ó Hatfield Marine Science Centerís new resident Giant Pacific Octopus is now on display and has a new name. By popular vote, heís going by Captain Stubs. The little guy is missing one arm and part of another.

The science center released its last octopus, Raven, back into the wild in mid-March. He was beginning to show signs of senescence, or old age, and was freed to have the chance to mate, Senior Aquarist Colleen Newberg said.

Hatfield only keeps its octopuses for a matter of months because of their short life spans. In this photo, Captain Stubs quickly rises from his old tank in the back to greet Newberg. Upon close inspection, his stub can be spotted.
