Buzz job pilot gets jail time

This photograph by wildlife photographer Teri Terrel of an airplane buzzing the beach at Waldport on Jan. 20, 2013, helped convict pilot Dean Edward Battersby last week on charges of reckless endangerment, menacing and illegal operation of an aircraft. On Wednesday, a circuit court judge sentenced the aviator to one year in jail.

NEWPORT A former U.S. Army pilot who buzzed a charter boat last year was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail and fined $5,000 for his barnstorming antics.

A six-member jury last week found Dean Edward Battersby, 65, guilty of 19 misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, menacing and prohibited operation of an aircraft.
