NEWPORT — The Newport Visual Arts Center was packed with people ready to party on Sunday afternoon. Many also took a walk down memory lane, reflecting back on 30 years of memories, goals, growth and thoughts of the future.

VAC director Sally Houck spoke fondly of the many volunteers who act as a driving force for the arts center perched between land and sea along the Nye Beach turnaround.

“A lot of people helped today,” she said, adding that people have been helping for 30 years.

Special thanks were given to the Yaquina Art Association, Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and the Coastal Arts Guild.

A mix of volunteers, artists, members of various boards, past and present city of Newport officials, and visitors in town for spring break attended the 30th anniversary celebration.

Festivities also included refreshments, birthday cake, art projects and speeches by a handful of speakers, including Newport Mayor Sandy Roumagoux.

“Each one of us has a story to the road taken to this building,” Roumagoux said.
