Crash claims life

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hoists the body of a woman who died Wednesday morning when the car she was driving went over a cliff at the north end of Otter Crest Loop south of Depoe Bay. -- Emergency workers gently lay a litter bearing the body of an accident victim on a gravel shoulder at Otter Crest Loop. The crew of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the victim from the bottom of a rocky cliff to the roadway.

OTTER CREST — A 23-year-old Lincoln City woman was killed Wednesday morning when the sport utility vehicle she was driving traveled off Highway 101 and went over a cliff into the rocks below Otter Crest Loop.

Adriana Ruiz was driving a 2008 Saturn Vue southbound about 8:40 a.m. when she apparently passed a vehicle near milepost 130 at a “high rate of speed,” the Oregon State Police said in an incident report. The report cited a witness who was driving the vehicle passed by Ruiz.
