Small town glimpses big future

Transportation expert Reah Flikowski told members of a Depoe Bay traffic committee that a new bypass road running parallel to U.S. Highway 101 would ease much of the city’s predicted traffic congestion.

DEPOE BAY — New homes, more hotels and a road around town that bypasses them all were some of the predictions unveiled last week by a transportation expert during a meeting with the local traffic committee.

Two decades from now, said Reah Flikowski, the city of 1,129 people will boast an additional 800 households and nearly 140,000 square feet of new hotels and businesses. The population will swell with nearly 1,000 new residents and 160 more jobs — 70 and 30 percent increases, respectively.
