Newport needs another meeting to ‘tweak’ compost language -- Thompson’s curbside service decision delayed until April

NEWPORT — The Newport City Council’s third public hearing in the last six weeks on Thompson’s Sanitary Service’s proposal to add curbside compostable collection ended Monday night with the council “approving” an agreement in principle.

Still, the city will revisit the controversial proposal one more time during its April 7 meeting to “tweak” some minor language, at which time it expects to approve a resolution that authorizes the program with a seven-year contract.
