Kids use imagination and building basics in library’s Lego competition

Participants in the third annual Lego Story Structure Competition won a variety of Legos prizes. The prizes were donated by the Newport Fred Meyer store. - Fifth-grader Caleb Houck and his mom, Heather, excitedly hold up Houck’s prize certificate for his award-winning Lego design, based on the nonfiction juvenile book “War on Terror,” by Steve Crawford. - Taking inspiration from “Titanic: Legacy of the Greatest Ocean Liner,” local third-grader Jake Fenton chose to design the Titanic for this year’s Lego Story Structure Competition, which took place at the Waldport Public Library.

WALDPORT ­– Participants in kindergarten through middle school showed up with books and original Lego creations for the Lego Story Structure Competition recently at the Waldport Public Library.
