Seventh and eighth grade students at Lincoln City SDA School cleaned up “oil spills” for science class recently. The students added oil to Petri dishes filled with water and then used a variety of items to try and discover the best way to clean up an “oil spill.” Some of the cleanup items students had to choose from were cotton balls, cloth, paper towels, sand, baking soda, detergent, and chemicals. The students were divided on what they felt worked best. Some students thought the sodium polyacrylate had the best results, while others decided detergent was most effective.
