Council spins wheels over police rigs

The Ford “Interceptor” used by the Lincoln City Police Department is a beefed-up sport utility vehicle with heavy-duty suspension and brakes. On Monday, the city council authorized police to buy two more at a price of $71,400, including specialized equipment.

LINCOLN CITY — Squad cars are out and sport utility vehicles are in at the Lincoln City Police Department, whose chief defended their use during a city council meeting this week.
