Depoe Bay may expand trail

Modified: Thursday, Jan 30th, 2014

The finishing touch on the South Depoe Bay Creek Nature Trail was a pair of cedar footbridges that span the bubbling creek. Work on the nature trail started in 2010, using fallow timberland adjacent to the city park that had been donated to the city years before. Work crews from the Lincoln County Jail pioneered a rambling path of cedar chips and stairways cut from windblown timber to create this branch, which rises 70 feet from the creek into a forest. The timber harvested here supplied the materials to build much of Depoe Bay.

DEPOE BAY Built with inmate labor and a four-figure grant, the South Depoe Bay Creek Nature Trail is an example of government spending gone right, not awry.
