Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management issued an advisory early Friday afternoon that Lincoln County is currently under a Red Flag Warning. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring or will shortly occur. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential, officials said.
Lincoln County Fire Defense Board Chief Will Ewing said, “Due to unseasonably dry and windy conditions, the Lincoln County Fire Defense Board is asking Lincoln County residents to use restraint this weekend regarding open burning. The current situation projects extreme fire behavior that could be affected by east wind activity.”
Ewing said that if possible, burning should be postponed until safer conditions return. Those who do decide to burn are asked to use extra caution and stay in attendance of the fire through the entire process, making sure it is completely extinguished when done. If any problems occur, they should call 9-1-1 immediately.
