Changes in law enforcement for Siletz will present challenges, officials say

Modified: Friday, Jan 24th, 2014

Senior Deputy Lance Cummings of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has been assigned to the east county day shift beginning Feb. 1. Cummings, a Montana native who served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a 16-year career with the sheriff’s office, said his former south county beat was typically the most active of the three districts, followed by north county and east county, the slowest. “But now that Siletz doesn’t have police support from Toledo, the east county could potentially become our busiest sector,” he said, describing a list of typical east county crimes that include burglaries, domestic disputes, car clouts and reports of suspicious people.

SILETZ – The Toledo Police Department fields around 1,500 calls per year from the city of Siletz and tribal lands.
