College looking to stand on its own

Oregon Coast Community College is the last of Oregon’s 17 community colleges to embark on a quest for standalone accreditation. According to Board of Education Chair Chris Chandler, one of the factors holding the college back was a lack of credible space early on in the school’s history, when OCCC rented space. Established in 1987, OCCC didn’t begin building its three campuses (including the central county campus in Newport pictured above) until 2007, with construction completed in September 2009.

NEWPORT – Oregon Coast Community College has a long journey ahead of it – around seven years worth – as the college seeks individual accreditation.
