A root beer social held at the corporate headquarters of PacWest Ambulance on Tuesday drew dozens of emergency-minded professionals to the Nye Beach facility that is the mother ship for 65 ambulance employees in Lincoln County. PacWest maintains a 24-hour presence with stations in Newport and Lincoln City with ambulances staged near Depoe Bay, Toledo and Ona Beach. The event was aimed at police, firefighters, hospital personnel and social workers who often work with PacWest. Monica Valencia, above, a PacWest spokesperson, was hostess for the event. She claimed PacWest emergency medical technicians such as Mike Bassett, behind the wheel of an ambulance, work arduous, 24-hour-long shifts. “They deserve a root beer float, too.”
