A Newport woman driving this Ford Mustang and an infant passenger dodged serious injury Saturday, July 13, when she lost control of the vehicle on Highway 20 east of Toledo at milepost 19 around 1: 45 p.m. According to the Oregon State Police, April Katherine Manning, 22, had just negotiated a sweeping left curve when she collided with the embankment, causing the Mustang to roll over and come to rest in the eastbound lane. Manning suffered minor injuries and was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport along with an infant male passenger. Police said driver and passenger were using safety restraints, and the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. Officers cited Manning for careless driving. The Toledo Fire Department, PacWest Ambulance, the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the accident scene. A witness reported an hour-long traffic delay.
