Water break dries up Newport Bayfront

Modified: Tuesday, Jul 9th, 2013

City of Newport crews blocked off this section of NW Third Street east of Nye Beach after discovering two sinkholes related to a concrete sewer line. City Engineer Tim Gross said the street remains passable and the problem should be fixed today (Wednesday). Newport Public Works personnel responded to an even more pressing problem on Friday when a broken water service line discharged about 2 million gallons of water into Yaquina Bay. During the repair, a Bayfront fish processing plant was without water for more than four hours. (Photo by Larry Coonrod)
