Laura Verena (Jerry) Pynes
Laura Verena (“Jerry”) Pynes of Eugene passed away peacefully July 1st, 2013 at the age of 99. Jerry was born March 2nd, 1914 in Milford, California, to Jackson and Annie Horn. In 1943, she married James “Ed” Pynes in Corvallis, Oregon.

Jerry’s family moved to Corvallis in 1930. She graduated from Corvallis High School in 1933. After high school, Jerry worked as a dairy clerk and as a seed analyst at Oregon State College. During World War II she was a welder at Kaiser Shipyards in Portland from 1943-1945. After the war she worked at Harrison Grade School in Cottage Grove and retired as head cook in 1974. In the mid-60s, Jerry and Ed owned the A&W in Lebanon.

Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with her family, playing card games, fishing, and camping preferably every weekend!

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993 and her grandson, Patrick, in 2000. Jerry is survived by her daughter, Patsee (Rex) Parker; grandchildren: Greg, Suzie, and Mary Lou; great-grandchildren: Sabrina, Sean, and Zeke and great-great-granddaughters: Brooklyn and Kailey.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Sea Aire Assisted Living in Yachats for their seven years of loving care for Jerry whom they referred to as “The First Lady of Sea Aire”.

A gravesite service will be held Sunday, July 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the Yachats Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
