Softball season ends with loss in extras

After almost 10 full innings of fiercely contested softball, marked by two dominant pitchers and not a single defensive error for either side, Newport’s state semi-final came down to one hit.

“Someone was going to do it,” explained Cubs head coach Mark Schiewe. “They got it.”

That hit, a two-out groundball single in the bottom of the tenth inning, was all it took to end Newport’s season as they fell 1-0 to the Banks Braves in 10 innings Tuesday.
