At Toledo, school pride takes front and center

Posted: Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Toledo High seniors Sarah Johns (left) and Lara Crane spent about 24 hours during four days in January painting the new mural.

When Toledo senior Lara Crane first saw the expansive wall across the hall from the high school’s newly renovated gymnasium, she immediately envisioned her next art project.

A mural, of course, but the size was so enormous she couldn’t imagine what to do with it.

She knew she would need help and asked Sarah Johns, a fellow senior also interested in art, and invited her to slap some paint on the wall.

At first they thought “Toledo High School” would do, but when they asked Principal Clint Raever for his permission, he reminded the girls that the official name of the school is Toledo Junior/Senior High School.

“So we changed it to Boomers,” Lara said, “which is perfect being across from the entrance to the gym. And it had to be blue on white (with dabs of gold).”
