Lincoln County schools bid goodbye to Alma Kosydar, who is retiring as base kitchen manager at Taft High, which prepares food for most of the north Lincoln County. She worked in many schools in the county.

Kosydar began her career at Newport High School in 1987. She recalls her interview with John Baird, the principal, who also had been her English teacher at Siletz. “Before we start this interview, I need your English paper that you didn’t hand in – in 1967,” he said.

She recalls the yearly Halloween lunch activities and their costume contests. The students, as well as Kosydar and her assistant, Karen Heimsoth, dressed up and provided presents for the best costumes. Kosydar was there for nine years until the last of her two children graduated.
