Ellie Ewan

Ellie Ewan, of Eugene and Yachats, died peacefully in her sleep April 29, 2013.

During her life she attended Northwestern University, worked for General Electric, married Jack Ewan on Aug. 7, 1948, and became an extraordinary mother, homemaker, volunteer and friend to many people from all walks of life.

She volunteered to deliver food to people in need and to teach adults to read. She never judged anyone because of their circumstances; she made everyone feel like they had a friend.

Ellie used her gardening talents to help spruce up the grounds of the Little Log Church. She was named the Yachats Volunteer of the Year in 1994, and was later named "gardener emeritus" by the Little Log Church and Museum. She served on the Yachats Street Commission and as a deacon for the Presbyterian Church.

At various stages of her life, Ellie enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, fishing, hiking, skiing, bird watching, traveling, photography and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on Oct 7, 2009. She leaves behind three children who were the luckiest kids ever to get her as a mom: Steve Ewan and his wife, Jan; Barb Forsman and her husband, Rick; and Jan Lafeman and her husband, Don. She had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial is planned at 1:30 p.m. June 25 at the Little Log Church (328 W 3rd St, Yachats) with a reception to follow at the Presbyterian Church (360 W 7th St. Yachats)

Remembrances to the Yachats Presbyterian Church.
