Saturday explosion at substation heard around Newport

Posted: Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Heavy smoke billows out of a Central Lincoln Public Utility District substation after a circuit breaker exploded and burst into fire early Saturday evening. The accident occurred just north of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds at the corner of Seventh and Harney streets and caused an hour-long power outage for about 1,900 utility customers in Newport. The fire was extinguished by the Newport Fire Department and no injuries were reported. (Courtesy photo by Courtney Sundin)
