James Andrew Lynch

Toledo, OR - James Andrew Lynch, 85, of Toledo passed away at home, in the company of his family, on Wednesday, April 10th, 2013.

Jim was born James Andrew Lynch to Regina Bennett in Pratt, Kansas on March 22nd, 1928. He grew up in Kansas for his younger years until his family moved to Oregon when he was a teenager. Jim attended Junction City High School then enlisted into the Navy, where he served on the USS New Jersey, USS Topeka, and the USS Iowa. Upon fulfilling his enlistment, he returned to Oregon. Jim settled in Toledo where he, his twin brother John, and his stepfather started their own saw mill (Reid and Martin Sawmill). In Toledo, Jim met Cleo Fieber; they were married on November 11th, 1950. When the family sold the saw mill, Jim began working at Georgia Pacific Plywood as a millwright. During this time, Jim and Cleo raised their eight children in Toledo and Jim spent many years as a Little League baseball coach. When GP closed temporarily, Jim retired from his position. Upon his retirement, he took a job teaching mechanics to mill employees in Indonesia, which was a great adventure for Jim and Cleo, as they remained there for two years and loved the new experience. When they returned to the States, Jim returned to work for a few years with Wheeler Inc., before eventually agreeing to actually retire. His second retirement was filled with lots of time spent tending to his yard, tinkering in his garage, fishing, roaming the woods, lots of golf and the arrival of great-grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Regina and Ross Reid, his twin brother John Lynch and his younger brother Jack Reid. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Lynch. His sisters, Maxine Baptiste of Gervais, OR and Betty Fieber of Halsey, OR. He is also survived by his eight children; Christine and Bob Gohl of Astoria, OR, Jim and Cathy Lynch of Toledo, Kathy Kowtko of Siletz, Rick and Rosie Lynch of Fall City, WA, Dan Lynch of Toledo, Bill Lynch of Toledo, Lori and Wazzy Case of Siletz, and Valerie Howell of Toledo. Grandpa Jim will also be remembered by his 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a wonderful man, who you could always count on for an honest opinion, a sound piece of advice, and a good laugh. Jim spent much of his time outdoors, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved to spend his time out on the golf course, perfecting his game. Jim always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially watching his grandkids play sports in the yard and meeting his buddies for coffee at the DQ. He will be missed by many.

Jimís memorial services will be held at Bateman Funeral Home on Friday, April 19th, 2013 at 2:00 pm.
