A quilt made by Tina McCann of Depoe Bay has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Small, Hand-Quilted Wall Hanging category of the 2013 American Quilter’s Society (AQS) show and contest at the Paducah Expo Center in Paducah, Ky.

“Kells” was inspired by an illumination from the Book of Kells in Trinity College Library, Dublin, Ireland. The quilt includes the traditional Christian iconography and swirling motifs commonly found in such handmade manuscripts. The background of the quilt is discharged (controlled bleaching) black fabric that gives the effect of parchment. “Kells” also features painting, hand appliqué, embroidery with gold thread, beading, and hand-quilting.
