The weekend of May 3 - 5 offers a rare opportunity in the Newport area to experience readings and presentations by more than 60 of the northwest region’s prominent poets. The fifth annual Northwest Poets’ Concord is set to start at 3 p.m. Friday, May 3, run all day Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday morning from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hallmark Inn and Resort.

On Friday, May 3, award-winning poet Ellen Waterston will give the keynote presentation at 5 p.m. Waterston is founder of The Nature of Words in Bend. This event is free and open to the public. Sunday’s events include a Book Fair, where authors will be available to sign their books. Both Friday and Saturday’s events conclude with open mics, where anyone can stand up and read a single poem.
