The 2013 Newport Paper Arts Festival XVIII is set for April 19, 20 and 21 at the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC) in Newport. The 18-year-old festival features three full days of unique workshops in papermaking, book and box making, surface design and printmaking, paper casting with molds, carving, embossing and weaving metal book covers, creating paper masks and large 3-D forms with cut paper, and unusual book binding techniques.

The Newport Paper Arts Festival is sponsored by Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA), the regional arts council for the Oregon coast.

Brochures and registration forms are available at the visual arts center and the performing arts center in Newport and at paper arts stores and art centers throughout the northwest. They can also be downloaded from the OCCA website, www.coastarts.org Search for “paper” to navigate to the Newport Paper Arts Festival page to find descriptions and images of the projects for each workshop. Registration for workshops is by postmark, so people are encouraged to fill out the form and mail registration promptly. Tuition is reduced when people sign up for two or three workshops. Lunches can be ordered for delivery on the registration form, or students can visit local restaurants during the lunch break.
