Gene Thomas Burr
Gene Thomas Burr passed away from cancer on March 10, 2013 at Advamere Rehabilitation in Newport, Oregon. He was 81.

Gene was born in Toledo, Oregon on September 19, 1931 to Rancel Raymond Burr and Elsie Marr. He was raised on a diary farm. Gene was drafted into the Korean War where he spent three years as a Sniper. Gene was married three times. His second marriage he had two children, Richard and Sherry. His third marriage was to Ruth Hanna and had three children: Katrina, Valerie and Scott. He was very proud to be a Little League coach in the 1970’s. Gene’s passion was his family and playing pool. He loved being a part of the community and making people laugh.

Gene worked for Georgia-Pacific in Toledo, Oregon for 33 years. He was a member of the American Legion, BCA Pool League and a Bowling League as well. He enjoyed wood working, hunting, camping, golf and his family get-togethers.

Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina, who passed away at birth.

Gene is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Ruth Burr, daughters, Valerie Carkhuff of Siletz, OR., Katrina DeVito of Portland, OR. and Sherry Hutton of Alaska, sons, Scott Burr of Sweet Home, OR., and Richard Burr of Alaska, eleven grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12pm – 2pm on March 30, 2013 at the American Legion Hall in Newport, OR. A graveside service will follow.
