If the Port of Newport goes ahead with a planned log export operation, freighters like the one pictured in this undated photo would once again be seen in Yaquina Bay. The port is nearing completion of a multi-million dollar restoration of its International Terminal. NEWPORT — For the first time in many years, International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 53 will likely see a significant increase in its casual workforce as the Port of Newport readies to resume international shipping.
