Young and old; athletic and infirm; fresh out of bed or dressed to the nines – Kate MacLellan saw them all during her 22-year tenure with the Lincoln City Parks and Recreation Department.

“It was a most excellent job,” MacLellan says. “They were 22 incredibly wonderful years.”

MacLellan, who was hired as a secretary and eventually became the department’s administrative coordinator, retired in December.

She worked under former Parks and Rec Director Bob Gibson for a few months, and then spent the next two decades with Ron Ploger until he retired in February 2011.

“It wasn’t near as busy, and we didn’t have the (technological) sophistication we do now,” MacLellan says of her early years with the department.
