Lincoln City volunteer firefighters abandoned their Super Bowl plans by turning out in force at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday after a propane tank mounted aboard a recreational vehicle began venting gas during a refueling attempt at a Chevron service station in the Taft neighborhood. Police and firefighters, including two engine crews, sealed off the business and geared-up for a potential explosion during the hour-long response. Lieutenant Dennis Knudson, in charge of the scene, said a cause for the malfunction was never determined, but he said the leak was successfully sealed and the motorist, a vacationer from Phoenix, Ariz., was advised to get the equipment serviced and repaired.
