Navigating the minefield of children’s TV

Having spent pretty much the first half of January with organs feeling like a fully active Jiffy Pop, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to catch up on children’s TV. Whether using it as an electronic babysitter or just too lazy to go find the remote, I’ve discovered much has changed since my childhood trifecta of Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers and Electric Company.

Mainly that it’s horrible.

Mind you, children’s TV has always been a bit of a media minefield. For every Sesame Street, there’s always been three pieces of Care Bear junk whose only purpose is to sell toys. Ensuring corporate profits, there was at least the solace that exploited children on the other side of the world had no free time to watch such stupidity.
