Earlier this month, staff members at Hatfield Marine Science Center took delivery of a new octopus that had been ordered from a collector in Vancouver, Canada, said Senior Aquarist Colleen Newberg. The octopus will be quarantined for 60 days due to international and Oregon transport permit regulations. Staff members worked to acclimate the octopus first to the water in the holding system, then to the aquarists who will take care of the animal. After the quarantine and acclimation to the HMSC staff members, the octopus will become part of a display at the science center.
