Swindle targets job seekers

The Oregon Employment Department has been alerted to a scam targeting job seekers.

There have been at least two reported cases of individuals receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves from “WorkSource.” The caller states they need the individual’s social security number to perform a background check on the job seeker’s work history.  One of the job seekers was also asked for their debit card number to cover an alleged $99 fee for the background check.
