Karen Candelario, owner of Ozone Fine Art, welcomed a large crowd last week for her new show at the Bayfront gallery. “ReNew, ReClaim and ReMind II” features contemporary art created by many local artists, including Newport artist Juergen Eckstein’s pieces in the foreground to her right. New exhibit features environmentally minded art

Fortunately for the contemporary artists who call Oregon’s central coast home, artist Karen Candelario decided a few years ago to move to Newport and to open Ozone Fine Art, a gallery on the Bayfront.

Early on, the gallery’s art had a feel of your typical showplace in San Francisco or Seattle, but during the last year, it has morphed into a home for local artists whose creations speak more about the coast and the Pacific Northwest, and less about the outside world.

“The first several shows we had were sort of streamlined contemporary art, but I felt people were kind of intimated by it,” Candelario said. “So I decided to offer art that is more informal and to get people more engaged in a fresh and creative way. Like having kids actually play with a sculpture or feel the paint on a wood panel.”
