Pacific Dance Ensemble (PDE), under the direction of Nancy Mittleman, will hold its 15th annual free performance benefit auction, “Dances from the Heart,” Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-10, at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

This Valentine’s celebration offers original dance pieces and a silent auction featuring items donated by many local and regional artists. “Dances from the Heart” will open its doors for the auction at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Pacific Dance Ensemble seeks donations of goods and/or services for the silent auction, which is held in conjunction with this Valentine’s performance. Monies from the auction benefit PDE’s continual commitment to bringing cultural enrichment to both the dance community and the community at large through a multitude of programs including this free performance, scholarships for graduating seniors, presenting lecture demonstrations in schools, exchange programs with other dance groups (both national and international), commissioning guest choreographers, artists and dancers, taking students to performances in other cities and bringing performances to the stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Pacific Dance Ensemble celebrates its 25th anniversary as a nonprofit, tax exempt organization, founded in 1987 to provide dancers interested in pursuing a career in dance the opportunity to work and perform with professional artists, produce original works and showcase their talents. PDE dancers provide inspiration and act as role models for younger students while sharing in the company’s high standards of polished performances for audiences of all ages.

PDE dancers have gone on to study and perform in such places as Juilliard in New York City, Mark Morris Dance Group, San Diego Dance Theater, The Jose Limon Dance, San Francisco Ballet, Chris Elam’s Misnomer Dance Co., Eugene Ballet, Paco Gnomes and Co., Cornish Institute for the Arts, California Institute for the Arts, Beloit College, Bennington College, Tisch at New York University and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

For more information and to make donations call 541-961-2316. All donations are tax deductible.
