Festival is this weekend in Yachats
Organizers of the second annual Yachats Agate Festival say that with 26 vendors and a hands-on approach to agate viewing, they expect a good turnout this weekend.
Organizer Mary Crook said Dr. James Chatters, a nationally recognized paleontologist from Washington state, will return as the event’s featured speaker for the two-day event. Chatters will speak about his recent digs.
A vendor from Gaston, The Third Rock, will bring a geode cracker to show just what’s inside geodes that people find; attendees will be able to see agates and gemstones in their raw forms as well as in artist creations. There will be a lapidary cutting demonstration and talks by a variety of speakers. In addition to vendors from Washington, California and Oregon, other businesses located in Lincoln County will also attend and have a booth in the Yachats Commons this weekend.
