George Browning
George F. Browning, 93, of Eugene, Ore. and recently of Toledo, Ore., died Jan. 2, 2013 in Eugene.

He was born March 5, 1919 to John L. and Loretta Mae (Barber) Browning in Los Angeles, Calif. He served at Pearl Harbor during World War II.

In 1950, he earned a BA in English from the University of Oregon. In 1957, he earned an MA in general studies, also from UO.

George and his wife, Clarajane, moved to the Oregon coast in 1962. Both of them worked as educators in Lincoln County. He was employed as a junior high school principal in public education, working for 28 years prior to retiring in June 1979.

He was a member of NEA, Elks, St. Johnís Episcopal Church Vestry, and Masons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarajane Dick Browning; sisters, Margaret Bremer, Hilda Humphreys, Elizabeth Wilkerson and Rosemary Huppi; and brothers, John Browning, Warren Browning and David Browning.

He is survived by his daughter, Frances B. Cogan; son, Thomas G. Browning; brothers, M. Keith Browning and J. Daniel Browning; and grandchildren, Cassandra M. Browning, Hilary F. Browning and Elizabeth B. Cogan.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Bateman Funeral Home, 915 Yaquina Heights Dr. in Newport.

Bateman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
