Local quilter and quilt historian Karen Oetjen will be the featured speaker at the Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild (OCQG) meeting Thursday in Atonement Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall in Newport.
“Table walk,” which offers the opportunity to see and participate in various guild activities, begins at 1 p.m.; the general meeting starts at 1:30 p.m.
Oetjen has quilted since 1978 and was selected as the guild’s featured quilter for the 2010 OCQG quilt show. She is very knowledgeable about kit quilts, dating fabrics, and quilting history in general. Oetjen became interested in charm quilts during a mini-revival of that type of quilt in the early 1980s.
