Car fire

The Newport Fire Department responded to a car fire in a parking lot in the 100 block of NE Seventh St. at around 2:30 p.m. Monday. The owner, who lives in an apartment at that location, had reportedly started the car and then gone back inside. When he returned outside a short time later, smoke was coming out of the engine compartment. Not flames were visible when firefighters arrived. They put water on the engine and quickly brought the situation under control.
