Lillian Marie Briley


Lillian Marie Briley, 95, died of natural causes on Dec. 23, 2012 in Springfield, Ore.

She was born July 10, 1917 to Frederick G. Mollenhour and Esther Marie Anderson in Portland, Ore. She graduated from high school in Scappoose. On Oct. 29, 1937, she married Athel Winsor Briley. They were married for 50 years.

Over the years, Lillian and her family lived in Merrill, Ore., Scappoose, Orinda, Calif., Alsea, Blodgett, Siletz and Springfield.

She was a member of the Siletz Valley Grange and the Yaquina Art Association. She was an accomplished artist in oils and watercolors. She worked at the Lincoln County Historical Society for several years. She also volunteered at the Newport Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Athel Briley; sons, Dennis E. Briley, Carroll L. Briley and Dale B. Briley; and grandson, Terry G. Briley.

She is survived by her children, Linda M. (Bill) Winheim of Newport, Richard A. (Sandra) Briley of Mayhill, N.M., David B. Briley of Waldport, Forrest L. Briley of Sisters, and Kathleen A. (Kenneth) Wilson of Siletz; brothers, Walter Mollenhour and Glenn (Laurie) Mollenhour of Scappoose; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park in Albany.

Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield is handling arrangements.
