Old friends reunite 3,500 miles from home

WALDPORT – A newspaper announcement last summer led to a reunion of sorts for two Waldport men.

Lou Piette and Richard Before knew each other years ago, growing up in Newport, Vt., but the men hadn’t spoken and hadn’t seen each other in decades.

Before lived across the street from Piette’s grandparents on Clyde Street and knew his mother’s whole family. He went to Piette’s grandfather – the town doctor and dentist – whenever he was ill.
