On Friday, Dec. 21, behind the Yachats Commons, a special celebration started with a weed torch and a pile of wood.
The third annual winter solstice bonfire started slowly – Don Niskanen approached the pile of wood with a backpack-style weed burner, and as crowds watched from inside the structure in the park, still others gathered around the pile of wood as he coaxed the flames to take over the pile.
