Peace Hike set for Jan. 1 in Yachats

The Yachats Trails Committee will hold its third annual New Year's Day Peace Hike to the Amanda Statue south of town. Participants should meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Yachats Commons, 441 N. Highway 101.

This is a six-mile round trip walk that will take hikers along the south 804 Trail, across the Yachats Bridge, along Yachats Ocean Road, to the Amanda Trail and the final destination, the Amanda Statue, with many spectacular views along the way. At the statue, the group will be invited to participate in a wreath ceremony and offer blessings for peace in the New Year. Hikers will then be invited to walk or shuttle back to the commons for more camaraderie, refreshments and to collect their commemorative Peace Hike button for this year.
