Hamilton Construction workers inspected for paint corrosion on the underside of the Yaquina Bay Bridge last week as part of an ongoing project by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The workers gained access by using a “snooper crane,” which hangs from a truck parked in one of the bridge’s vehicle lanes. Traffic was delayed for a couple of hours while the lane was closed. The $3.3-million project, which began in late 2011 and is scheduled to end in spring of 2013, will replace structural steel and beam pads beneath the 76-year-old bridge. The navigational lights and other bridge lighting are also being replaced.
