Friday is deadline to apply for city council vacancy in Newport

NEWPORT — Wanted: thick-skinned, Newport resident who can labor day and night for free, utter the words “aye” or “nay” and stay out of jail. Children and city employees need not apply. Friday, Dec. 28, at 5 p.m. is the deadline for citizens to apply for a vacancy on the city council that will occur Jan. 7 when Councilor Sandra Roumagoux is sworn in as mayor of the city.
